Tech: Nokia N810

I picked up a Nokia N810 this week on sale plus a discount. I was a bit wary at first but after playing with it yesterday and today I am pretty happy with it. I just need to figure out (1) the vpn client so that I can connect to work and (2) figure out how to tether it to my treo 700p without having to pay Verizon more $$$ (I already have their unlimited data plan).

Updates:

- VPN client is working great.  I had to mess around with resolv.conf since I am using the Cisco VPN client and it does split-routing, however.

- I had to sign up for the tethering option with Verizon in order to get my N810 to use my treo 700p.  However, I can also use the tether to work with my Macbook now.

Fun: Rock Band drummer sets the record for Rush’s Tom Sawyer.

This is pretty awesome — this guy is doing Rush’s Tom Sawyer on the Rock Band game in expert mode.  Really impressive considering the drummer who came up with the original drum beats… Neil Peart!

Toy: Awesome pedal race car

I wish I was 3 – 6 years old again and less than 50 pounds!!!  I could ride in one of these!!!

Me: Soccer

We had our first soccer practice to get ready for the season that starts on Jan 2, 2008.  It felt really good to get back to kicking a ball around again!  I have two main goals for this soccer season: (1) to be able to run for an entire 50 minute game, and (2) to score at least one goal a game.

The only thing I am afraid of is that some of my teammates lose interest in soccer and start to quit.   That would suck…

News: 20 years of the internet — NSFnet, ANS, and Al Gore

The 20th anniversary of NSFnet was celebrated last month (November ‘07) in Arlington, VA.  This is not just cool because it is what today’s internet was created from, but it is really cool because the company (Advanced Network Servicse) that I worked for out of college is mentioned in the article:

Al Gore is mentioned because even tho he was widely panned for his comment that he “created the internet,” it is in fact  true that he was vital in the funding of the project.
