Sports: Terrell Owens tries to commit suicide

Posted in Sports on September 27, 2006 by rantsofatwinkie

Okay, so Terrell Owens, Mr. Flamboyant, of the Dallas Cowboys apparently tried to kill himself today by overdosing on pain medication.

Maybe his hamstring injury that he supposedly injured in training camp just hurt too much for him to take and he was just trying to dull the pain. Oh wait, I guess this negates that:

The report said Owens was asked by rescue workers “if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time (he) stated, ‘Yes.”‘ [si.com]

Another example of someone having skills that are wasted and too much money that they cannot handle. I will laugh my butt off if it comes out that he complains that all the attention and press he gets drove him to commit suicide considering all the stunts he pulls to GET people’s attention and the news writing about it.

“Owens, one of the league’s top receivers during his 11-year NFL career, is best known for wild stunts on the field and other publicity-seeking antics off it.” [si.com]

I honestly have no sympathy for him just like I have no sympathy for all those Hollywood stars that complain about not being able to get any privacy and get all annoyed with the papparazzi. Wah wah wah!!! Here’s a penny.

17:13 EST – UPDATE – Terrell is now denying claims that he was trying to commit suicide. He is blaming it on an allergic reaction to mixing painkillers with supplements. Ooookay, T.O.

Sports: Wasted Talent

It always flabbergasts me how stars (eg: sports and movie) can get into drugs and crime. Take former Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett. He was on the path for a potentially great future in the NFL yet decided to be a total punk and get into crime. So, he got kicked out by Ohio State and then tried out for the NFL. However, he screwed that up also.

Now, he agreed in court today (09/18/06) to plead guilty to aggravated robbery (he held up two people outside a bar) and cfor arrying a concealed weapon in a deal that will send him to prison for at least 3 1/2 years. I bet that football toned tush of his is going to be super popular in prison. Actually, I heard he is pretty out of shape now but I am sure it will be a popular butt anyways.

Sports: NASCAR Race to the Chase

Yes, I am a bit of a NASCAR fan. I can’t sit through an entire race, but I do follow the results and do have favorite drivers. Today’s race at Richmond will determine the 10 drivers who will be a part of the Championship Race. I am hoping Jeff Gordon makes it this year (he missed it last year and that was disappointing).

As the race runs right now, he is having a pretty crappy race day. He qualified 3rd which looked promising, but he is now running around 27th with only about 90 laps to go. As things stand even with that poor position in the race he is sitting 7th overall so that is good. Currently Tony Stewart is 11th and out of the Chase, which I relish because Tony has completely turned me off this year with his hypocritical, self-centered attitude. He reminded me of a 2 year old a lot of this year. I am glad that the last 3-4 races he has pretty much kept his mouth shut.

Sports: The head-butt by the butt-head seen around the world

Posted in Sports on September 5, 2006 by rantsofatwinkie

So, word has come out as to the exact circumstances that led Zinedine Zidane to head-butt Marco Materazzi in July’s World Cup soccer final.

Basically, Materazzi grabbed a hold of Zidane’s shirt (a common practice in well, sports such as soccer and American football). Zidane’s then said to Materazzi, “if you want my shirt I will give it you afterwards’?” to which Materazzi replied, “I would prefer his sister.” The head-butt, ejection, and subsequent fines/game ban followed.

I mean, come on, was this a soccer match on the elementary school playground or the World Cup Final after which Zidane was to retire? Maybe Zidane has taken too many steroids and the ol’ ‘roid rage kicked in?

Holy cow talk about thin-skinned!

What is even funnier is that Materazzi is quoted as saying he didn’t even know Zidane actually had a sister until that moment.

I’d say Zidane is a major butt-head.

Sports: NASCAR in Michigan

This weekend the NASCAR Nextel Cup is at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Unfortunately, one of the main backroads folks use to get to the track goes by our neighborhood. So, it is going to be a traffic zoo here the next few days.

Hopefully Jeff Gordon has a good race and moves up some spots in the top-10. Yeah, I’m a Jeff Gordon fan.

Sports: Bode bode bode – why do we care so much?

Posted in Sports on February 24, 2006 by rantsofatwinkie

Man, I can’t believe all this press about Bode Miller and him not getting a single medal out of 4 events so far. I mean, should we really care? It’s the Olympics, which frankly, I’ve watched around a total of 15 minutes of this event – and 10 of that were of Curling, of all events. Whether he wins a gold medal or not isn’t going to improve our lives any. Let the guy ski and if he doesn’t get a medal, congratulate him for making the Olympics. I can’t believe that the Olympics has come down to “win the gold or you are a failure.”

Personally, I think the Olympics are pretty silly in comparison to the war that we are currently involved in and soldiers are dying in. If I was in the military serving in the Middle East I’d be pretty offended that the primary front page news is the Olympics and that we have our panties in a bunch because Bode Miller is not living up to our expectations or that Sasha Cohen fell twice and only won the silver.

We need to stop focusing on the negatives/failures. I’d say making the Olympics in the first place should out-weigh any performance problems during the event.
